Letter from The Dalai Lama Foundation
The Dalai Lama Foundation was established by friends and students of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who wish to support his ideas and efforts for peace and the alleviation of human suffering. Within the broad parameters of ethics and peace, which the Dalai Lama advocates beyond the confines of a particular religion or political dogma, we work in specific areas such as disarmament, conflict resolution, human rights, interfaith dialogue and humanitarian work.
We also address issues closer to the Dalai Lama and his people such as the need for a resolution to the issue of Tibet, cooperating with the many effective Tibet support groups, and developing new ways to work for the long-term benefit of Tibet.
The foundation is guided by the Dalai Lama's ideas of peace and compassion and by the example of his life's work. Our focus is on the Dalai Lama's ideas of personal transformation and universal responsibility and the development of a good heart. Following the advice of the Dalai Lama, we seek to work closely with the many individuals and organizations that share these values and are working effectively around the world. We act as an incubator for new projects, and connect social entrepreneurs and humanitarian projects with good-hearted people around the world.
The violence, conflict and suffering in the world affect us all, because we are all connected. The responsibility is ours' to become co-creators for a better world. The Dalai Lama's enthusiasm for this new Foundation is a call to action for all of us who have been inspired by his ideas and messages. The Dalai Lama Foundation offers each one of us the rare opportunity to be more than a mere observer; to work in concert with the Dalai Lama's ideas and efforts, and with many of his close collaborators who are a resource for good.
